From my Buzz

For those of you that don't follow me in Buzz, I wanted to share this article:

http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200910/risk

I think it's a very good look at "risk" activities. It certaintly describes me, even though I'm not in the typical group (male). It explains a lot about my life, both past and present. I was often bored in school, but fortunatly did not turn to drugs etc as I was lucky enough to find other thrills that risked life and limb.

As endurance riders, aren't we all managing a level of risk? As *most* endurance riders are female, and I *think* (or at least my impression is!) in their 40's-60's, we wouldn't fit into the typical profile outlined in the article. Very interesting.

  1. Ok, I admit it, I just got around to reading that. But it was way more interesting than I thought from glancing at the first page. I kept substituting riding for climbing, and it does sound like us. And we're not even the real extremists - foxhunting and eventing are much more concentrated adrenaline rushes!

But yeah, it's right on. "Working through a challenging climbing route, for example, generates a powerful sense of competence that can also provide climbers with a new-found confidence in their everyday life. " = "Every completion makes me feel badass."
