Animals that have access to free exercise (pasture) have a greater quantity of synovia (joint fluid) in their joints. As it is a protective and nutritive substance, this seems like a good thing to me....

I just ran across an ad for a horse for sale (I'm shopping) and it said "No 24/7 turnout in Winter." It irks me that there are people out there who still think stabling is a necessity. This was an ad for a 15 year old Standardbred. Most of the ads say their horse *requires* free turnout all year, so at least most people have caught on to that idea, even here in Germany where the Winters can be bad.
