I'm in a surprisingly good mood, even though every time I look at the title of this post, I see "Has your Horse Died?" *shudder*
My to-do list falls into 2 categories:
A. Was put on the list an hour ago and is already done.
B. Was put on the list 3 years ago and it's still there.
So, today I am proud to announce that an item from category B is done!
Farley now has an ID tag.
I saw this idea a few years ago when I first started endurance and always meant to get around to getting a pet tag engraved to tie in her mane during trail rides.
Her name, my last name, my AERC ID#, and my phone number is engraved on a black, round pet tag.
Now I just need to get one engraved to put on my running shoes. That, unfortunately, has been on the to-do list for almost 10 years......

Hah, I beat you to part 1. I got two tags engraved with Dixie's name, my name, and my cell # before we headed out to Rides of March.... Then I lost them. Turns out they fell between the seats, and I found them after the ride. Luckily my horse didn't run away in the middle of the night.
ReplyDeleteI haven't attached the halter tag yet.
See, I got one round tag that I'll braid in her mane when we go somewhere, and one rectangular tag that I'll rivet to her flat halter. Or maybe I should tie it to her rope halter? Or maybe I should get another tag and put one on each halter? I'm a little OCD too; I just get paralyzed by indecision.
Plus now that she has her very own I'd tag every thing HAS to be ok tommorrow right?
ReplyDeleteSo I still need a tag fir her halter, a tag for my running shoes (which will double as MY tag during a ride on my shoes). And maybe a tag for my saddle and my crew bag and cuddle case. Have I forgotten anything?
That was suppose to be FIDDLE case...
ReplyDeletegood idea! That will be put onto the list (with a hundred other things) :p
ReplyDeletehahaha...I like you way of thinking. I am keeping my fingers crossed that everything turns out okay as far as the lameness goes. Gen has the pet tag on his halter with his name, barn address and my cell phone because he is such a Houdini. It has actually been used once so I think it is money well spent! I hope you never have to use Farley's!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid that I've you ALL beat. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI used to board at a barn where good-quality equipment would go, not missing, but astray . Some of the riding students (not boarders) seemed to think that it was okay to use my stuff because it was nicer/cleaner/stronger than the stuff in the student box. Uh, NO.
As a result, I have tags on saddles, bridles, bit-hangers, plus an extra tag to braid into each mare's mane.
(I admit, nobody's ever shown the slightest inclination to borrow Fiddle...those pinned ears are good for something!)
It is glorious to have the horses (and gear) at home, but the tags are still useful if we accidently drop something at the vet check.

I have been using name tags on my horses, tack and crewbag for some time. On the '01 XP I got some with the vets phone # on them, figuring they would be within cell range more often than I would be.
ReplyDeleteHere is a post with a link to where I get my I.D. tags from. I like these the best because they are engraved metal and last and last. I like to be generic on some "I belong to" with my name and info. Each horse also has their own name tags.

So what do you keep in your cuddle case, Mel? Maybe I want one too!
ReplyDeleteTags braided in manes for some years now too. Also have tags on his halter he wears on trail, but those can SO get broke and come off or slipped. Had them made at Petsmart. Walmart now has tag machines at many stores too. I made some special ones with beads for rides. Might as well be cute/pretty.
