This is NOT an OCD post

In an effort to NOT continue posting a gazillion OCD posts today, I thought I would share my favorite recipie for "OCD times" (such as this).

Last night I made my secret comfort food and watched Torchwood season 2 in (almost) its entirety.

Drinking copious amount of alcohol, by myself, in an OCD state of mind is a BAD THING.  Instead I cook with it.  I might make a bit of Chicken Marsala or Coq a vin (I most certaintly spelled that wrong).  And....for dessert....I make THE comfort food:

Guinness Beer Bread

(BTW - this recipe is shamelessly stolen from "Simply Recipes")

3 cups of self rising flour (or, 3 cups of flour and 3 3/4 tsp baking powder and a pinch of salt)
1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. molasses (I go light on the sugar and molasses because I'm not a fan of really sweet stuff)
1 bottle or can (12 oz) of Guinness.  Fizzier is better.  I used Guinness draft in a bottle

Pour mixture in a buttered loaf pan and bake at 350F until done (about 40 minutes).  Loaf will get quite brown because of all the sugar in it so don't panic.

Melt butter over the top and slice.  Top with more butter if you are feeling REALLY depressed.  Go watch your favorite movie/tv show.  Maybe knit a pair of socks.

If you are adventurous, toast it under the broiler in the morning for breakfast.

  1. What makes you think that there would be some left over by breakfast time?!?!?!!!!

    it sounds wonderful....

...and then, of course, one must appropriately dispose of the other five bottles of Guinness.

  2. Forgot to mention you don't want to overmix this bread.

One for bread, one for me, one for the bread, one for me :) Kind of like making stew with wine.
